I do not go to church just because my neighbors go.
Nor do I go because I have a brand-new dress to show.
Oh! simple is my wardrobe but for this I do not sigh.
God does not look at coats and hats, fine suits, and swell neckties.
Nor would He ever give to the finest dressed, a prize
He only looks upon our hearts, upon our soul's and minds.
And He records accordingly to what He there can find.
I go to church, my friends, because I know my Savior cares
And if my heart's in tune with Him, I know I'll find Him there.
I go to church that I may find what God would have me learn
That I, from the pastor's text some lesson may discern;
Some little thought my mind might grab from out some lovely song
To fill my heart to over flow - with Love the whole day long.
To cleanse my soul again anew, I know I'll never be
Without my Savior for I know He watches over me.
The weeks are long and weary and oftimes I feel Him prod
I go to church my friends, because I Love My God.
