The trees a month ago were green
A refreshing sight to see
The leaves were always whispering
Sweet messages to me,
But when October came to town
He brought with him a friend
Jackie Frost the three folks called him
As he came abound the bend.
For soon as he came into view
The leaves began to shiver
When morning came again we found
Some ice along the river.
Mother tree sighed and shook her leaves
"Wake up my merry fellows!
It's time to put on your new coats
Of reds and browns and yellows."
Jackie Frost is giving a party
Down there upon the ground
Oh, Mother dear, may be go too
While Jackie's still in town?
Oh, yes my dears, you all may go
And kissing each one gently waved
Goodbye, until next year.
And when the party was over
North wind gave them a ride
Til they all were tired and sleepy
And Mother Earth they spied.
"Come now, my children, " she gently said
"To keep you nice and warm
I"ll cover you with a white blanket
To shield you from the storm."
Close to the ground they nestled
A gay and colored sight
Then sleepily they whispered
"Dear Mother Earth, Good Night!"
